Good Energy Managing Partner Shares Expertise at Workshop

New York government officials and community leaders can learn how to save money for their cities, towns, and villages and guide their communities to more environmentally friendly energy choices during a Feb. 14 workshop sponsored by the Clean Energy Communities Program.

At the workshop, Javier Barrios, Good Energy’s Managing Partner, will be among the experts offering insights about Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) programs. A CCA program allows municipalities to control the selection of an energy supplier and saves money by pooling energy demand. CCA also enables communities to more easily purchase energy from renewable sources.

As a panelist during a discussion about CCA programs, Barrios will share how New York City-based Good Energy has become a leader in energy procurement consulting and has helped more than 400 communities nationwide establish similar aggregation programs.

“Through Community Choice Aggregation programs, local governments can gain more control over their energy procurement, lower costs, and protect the environment,” Barrios says. “Good Energy has helped hundreds of communities with similar programs, and I look forward to sharing ways local governments can help residents and businesses lower energy costs.”

During the free workshop at Hudson Valley Community College in Malta, New York, attendees can also find out how to participate in Clean Energy Communities programs, which help implement clean energy initiatives, save energy costs, create jobs, and improve the environment.

As part of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, the Clean Energy Communities Program’s goal is to build more sustainable communities. The Clean Energy Communities Program also recognizes and rewards local governments for clean energy leadership. Municipalities that complete four of 10 High Impact Actions earn the Clean Energy Community designation and a grant of up to $250,000 to support clean energy programs. High Impact Actions include initiatives such as joining a Community Choice Aggregation program, installing LED street lights, and increasing the number of solar rooftops.

Also at the workshop, the local officials and leaders at the workshop can also learn about the support available through the NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities Coordinators.
