Through an innovative, ongoing partnership, Good Energy and Feeding America Food Banks has helped provide more meals to those in need.
For more than 10 years, Good Energy has provided expert energy procurement strategies to many Feeding America Food Banks. And when the Food Banks save money on energy, those funds are used for meals.
The Good Energy team has helped more than seven regional food banks in Texas lock in much lower energy rates by monitoring the energy market and identifying opportune times to make energy purchases.
The price for electricity and gas is based on the futures market, which is volatile. Also, the average North American household spends nearly $6,000 on power each
year. Residential customers should expect the largest increase since 2008 – a 3 percent rise – this year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
For non-profit organizations such as Feeding America Food Banks, finding cost-effective ways to procure and manage power means being able to help more people. However, for the typical business or consumer, both the complexities and volatility of the market makes full energy procurement analysis no easy proposition.
Because Good Energy experts know the energy market and its power players, organizations such as Feeding America Food Banks can more easily lock-in the lowest rates.
“We feel passionately that the reduction in cost for the Food Banks provides much more than a healthy bottom line for these valuable non-profits,” says Carolyn Cantrell, Director, Energy Commodities of Good Energy, “This partnership provides four meals for every dollar saved. We help ensure that more of our hungry neighbors receive the nutritious foods they need.”
With one in every six people in America facing hunger, the problem isn’t going away quickly. Good Energy has answered the call to pitch in and find new ways to cut costs for the Food Banks, whenever possible.
Since Good Energy began this program for non-profits more than 10 years ago, our Texas effort has helped these Food Banks reduce energy costs by 30 percent! The results are amazing: Every dollar in savings represents enough money to supply four meals.
During 2017, Good Energy and Feeding America Food Banks will expand this program across other regions. If you would like to participate in this important effort or becoming part of the program, contact info@goodenergy.cominfo@goodenergy.com.
Working together, we can all help – even if it’s just one Kilowatt at a time!
