Good Energy is poised to help the residents and businesses of the Village of Coxsackie save money on energy bills through a new Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program.
Coxsackie is part of a CCA plan with four other municipalities, including the towns of Cairo and New Baltimore in Greene County, and the villages of Fayetteville and Minoa in Onondaga County. By combining the energy consumption of Coxsackie with these other municipalities, Good Energy can negotiate for lower rates.
“The village board seeks every opportunity to save money for the people of Coxsackie, and this was an excellent way for residents to save money at no cost to the village,” says Village of Coxsackie Mayor Mark Evans. “We look forward to working with Good Energy to save the residents money on energy bills.”
This past January, the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) approved Coxsackie’s CCA plan, which is designed and managed by Good Energy. CCA programs enable local governments to purchase energy in bulk on their residents’ behalf. As an energy consultant, Good Energy manage the programs, which often offers lower energy prices for business and residential consumers.

In addition to the possibility of lower energy prices through bulk purchasing, Good Energy can provide Coxsackie and other New York communities with renewable-energy options including energy storage, distributed generation and community solar.
As part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision program, New York State authorized the creation of CCAs in 2015. New York is the seventh state to allow CCAs, and Good Energy participated in the initial design of the state’s first program in Westchester County. Good Energy has helped numerous communities across the nation establish and manage CCAs.
CCAs can be established in communities that pass laws authorizing the programs. Once municipalities sign an agreement, residents are automatically enrolled but may opt out at any time.
Small businesses can also participate, and may see significant energy savings.
