Ashley (Simba) Muyambo, from Zimbabwe, is the recipient of this year’s $1,000 The Energy Professionals Association TEPA/Keith Pelham Memorial Scholarship at Hill College.
The TEPA/Keith Pelham Memorial Scholarship will cover about one-third of Muyambo’s annual tuition at the Texas-based Hill College, and he plans to also pursue a degree from University of Texas at Arlington.
In addition, another $1,000 donation from Hill College, approved by President Dr. Pamela Boehm, was divided to award two scholarships to other highly deserving applicants. Andrea Rivera, from Honduras, and Abigail Mupadawano, from Zimbabwe, will also receive $500 each through the TEPA/Keith Pelham Memorial Scholarship Endowment.
The scholarships are awarded to Hill College students interested in a career in energy and is based on financial need, academic performance and commitment to individual excellence.
“I want to convey a sincere thank you to the members of TEPA who make a difference in the lives of students who are pursing advancement through education,” says Scott Heath, TEPA at-large board member and Good Energy Managing Partner. “Thank you for supporting TEPA’s commitment to advance learning. Never underestimate the power that giving can have on our association, its members and the communities we serve.”
TEPA created the memorial scholarship to honor Hill College alumnus Keith Pelham, who passed away in 2013. Pelham attended Hill College, was a founding member of TEPA, and part of Good Energy’s leadership team since 2003.
“Like Keith Pelham, and many other TEPA members since him, we are working to grow our association with a giving spirit,” Heath says. “TEPA is proud to lend a helping hand to these deserving students as they work to achieve their own inspiring goals and write their own individual success stories of contribution.”
To be eligible, students must maintain a minimum 2.25 GPA, be enrolled at least part- time, completed at least 15 credit hours at Hill College, pursue a degree in business, engineering, marketing, accounting, or a similar field with an interest in a career in energy. Students must also submit a 250-word essay and provide information about their community involvement or volunteer efforts.
The TEPA/Keith Pelham Memorial Scholarship Endowment was created with initial donations of $10,000 by TEPA and $10,000 by Good Energy along with additional contributions from industry associates, family members and friends of Keith Pelham.
